Yahoo is shutting down on August 17th. They want to get rid of free messenger. If you delete this and don't pass it on, your name will be deleted. A lot of people have already been deleted. Right click on the group name of your buddylist and click, Send Instant Message to All in Group.HEY ITS DIANNA, FROM THE DIRECTOR OF YAHOO, EVERYBODY SORRY FOR THE INTERRUPTION, BUT YAHOO IS CLOSING THE SYSTEM DOWN BECAUSE TOO MANY BOOTERS ARE TAKING UP ALL THE NAMES, WE ONLY HAVE 57 NAMES LEFT, IF U WOULD LIKE TO KEEP YOUR ACCOUNT, SEND THIS MESSAGE TO EVERYONE ON YOUR LIST. THIS IS NO JOKE and sorry people

Really? I do not think Yahoo would approach this matter with such a poor business model or strategy. Certainly this is an attempt by someone or individuals to start a spam or chain of false information to incite worry.

If instant messaging is interfering with the bottom line of the Yahoo business plan, then certainly it would also be a concern of other IM entities. If anything, Yahoo would use the already existing IM platform to make it more viable for marketing strategies.

To get rid of Yahoo IMessenger would open doors to competitors to generate more revenue and take hostage Yahoo's user base. Shutting down could be for maintenance reasons or something related, but permanent nullification, I do not think so.
