Is it possible and a good idea? Anybody know what colleges think about taking classes out of high school?
I heard you don't have to take AP classes to take the test, so self study is also an option. Any advice?

You can certainly study the AP material on your own. You just have to take the actual test at a school where the test is being given.

Check the College Board's website; there is a list of subjects and all the applicable rules there.

Also, check at your library or bookstore. There are many books to help prepare you for AP exams.

it's not a good idea if you can't keep up with the work like procastinating because in AP classes you have quite a lot of stuff to learn, but still pretty fun.
I think you can take it online or something, the only downside is that it won't be on your transcript, so no 5.0 weighted GPA things which kinda sucks.

basicly depends on what AP course you want to take, you should at least put in 1-2 hours of studying/doing problem a day or... you won't do so well on the AP test!
if your school has the class, DEFINITLY take it instead of self studying!
and then there is also those crazy people that studying 3 AP by themselves during the year and and 2 at school with a total of 5 subjects and getting 5's in all of them
