THANK YOU FOR HAVING AN ALERT EYE WHILE DRIVING
as a former school bus driver of 16 years, i am glad you do notice school buses as you drive. i have seen soooooo many drivers pass my stop arm, even caused accidents with other cars because they did not notice the stop arm of a stopped school bus loading/ unloading students. i was fortunate i did not see any children get hit, but some of my former co-workers did and that is very hard on a driver, they think about it the rest of their lives. most school bus drivers think of your kids as their kids, because they get to know your kids and hell we watch them grow up too.
since you noticed the bus is school bus yellow, federal regulated color. not other vehicle can have that particular color, (yes, there are some yellows which look real close to that color, but it is not).
now i hope you noticed the overhead amber and red lights used to load and unload the students from the bus, which most states have stop arms on the left side of the bus used when the reds are on. even some states have two stop arms on the left side of the bus. i have even heard that one state has the bus driver get off the bus when the students have to cross the road, and the driver has to use a hand held stop arm (like a crossing guard).
i don't know how old you are, but if you remember the Partiage Family show, it was about a musical group from the 70's who would tour the states in a bus, that bus was very colorful. the last i heard that bus is still in california.

It would be cute if each bus had their own color. But yellow vehicles are the most visable on the road. That makes yellow safer so I vote for yellow.

Yellow is a bright, noticeable color and means caution. Darker colors are not as visible.

yellow is reserved strictly for schoolbuses. if you buy a school bus to use on public roads it has to be repainted.
