I think it's terrific and about time! Men need a chance to spend time bonding with their new baby, taking care of him/her, and getting to know the baby. It doesn't work very well with the man still working, the mom home all day alone with the baby just after giving birth. Dad comes home tired after a hard day's work and is expected to jump right in a help out. It can lead to stress and resentment on the part of both parents, not a very happy household. But if both parents are given a period of time to get used to the new routine and new addition, it should help smooth the transition.

Its wonderful to have the man at home. Men need to bond with their babies as much as woman. Thats probably half the problem with this society. Most places will pay for the first 2 weeks under sick leave. But men are allowed the full twelve weeks under the Family Medical Leave Act and can use accrued time like vacation. It's about time Dad's are respected!

At my school, maternity leave is 12 weeks but paternity leave is only 2 weeks. I think this is great. Men should be able to be home to help out a bit in the first couple of weeks. Also, as my school is abroad, men need two weeks to make it home in time for the delivery if the mother decides to go to her home country to deliver.

That's the Family Medical Leave Act. It isn't just for maternity situations. It is for any situation in which a family member requires help with a disability. For instance, if a parent was dying of cancer, you would be eligible to take a medical leave. And yes, in our equal rights society, men should be able to take leave at that time to help the baby and mother. They should be doing housework and caring for their wives until they get their energy back.

I took a few days with mine. In fact, I've heard of guys being SAHD for several month to care for a new infant while their wife went back to work. Maternity leave isn't ussually paid so I don't know what the fuss is about. It's my kid too.

Depending upon where you live, men are allowed to take PAternity leave. I think it is absolutely wonderful! Most men would absolutely love the chance to bond better with the baby.

It's great! My husband only got 3 days to be home with us but luckily our son was born on Friday so he didn't have to go back to work until Thursday. Moms need a hand those first few days when they are recooperating. Not to mention, at least in my husbands case, he wanted to spend as much time with the new baby as possible.

I think it is just as important for the father to get time off as it is for Mom. Obviously, the Mom needs time to physically recover. Dad's can be a huge help during that time. It's also good to give Parents and baby a chance to bond as a family.

Its actually called paternity leave...but yes they can and I think its great. Why should only the mom get to bond with their child and why should the mom be the only one who has to get up for those midnight feedings every night. Both parents can actually get paid for their time off too...its called fmla...family medical leave act. I think its a great idea!

well its paternity leave for men and by law they are allowed 12 UNPAID weeks of leave but the only problem with that is that if you can afford to have the man not work for 12 weeks then its not a very good idea if he can then its all good go for it
