I can't believe that people can just sit there and type in the first bit of crap that comes to mind, just for the sake of a couple of meaningless points. Most of them can't even string a sentence together!

Well, sometimes people revert to typing like they're writing a text message and miss out a load of letters. Other times their brain is working faster than their fingers, so words get missed out of sentences. Some people are better at typing than others. I think your statement is quite rude though. And as for 'typing the first bit of crap that comes to mind' you clearly didn't look at your question as you typed it. Should people have a capital P? Should semi- have a space after the dash? And what the hell is going on with humourless/? Practise what you preach!

Being a professor I see much misspelling and incorrect use of grammar. I believe the word, "...People..." would not be capitalized at this juncture of your sentence.

You may be interested to know that Benjamin Franklin, one of this countrys' forefathers (and yes, the use and spelling of the apostrophe and the word "countrys'" is correct --remember second grade?), wanted to distinguish the new United States of America more than it was already. His idea was to come up with our "own language (writings of Benjamin Franklin. Journal of American History, 8. 198-214)." He invented the phonetic alphabet and even wrote his own dictionary devoted to the language. Wurds wur speld jus lik tha sowndid. It was so confusing for the colonists to learn that the new language was quickly dismissed. Mr. Franklin also wrote the first American English dictionary ever published.

As for supporting your spelling, if you use the UK-English language "humourless" is the correct spelling.

when this site came into being it was initially for the right reasons, however you have a minority who insist on being racist, sexist and down right weird and who insist on posting questions, which in their own little universe ,must seem hilarious at the time. Some do it for attention, some do it to inflame others and some do it because this is their social life - we're a broad community on here as we are in the 'real world'- what ever that constitutes - so like the weirdo on the tube or the train or sitting next to you on the bus - you learn to blot it out - suck it up, smile and nod. People are people - you think their questions are pointless - dont answer them

Any open forum such as Yahoo Answers is bound to attract the semi-illiterate, shallow and humourless.

Those who have a glimmer of intelligence and who also wish to engage in factual debate just have to either ignore it or let the ignorant vandals drive them away.

I have posed questions and received answers ranging from single words, through thinly disguised abuse to erudite responses.

As in life in general, I believe you should 'stand up and be counted' unless you want the ignorant inmates to take over the asylum.

There are a good number of genuine contributors to these pages and I hope you will continue your contributions.

I think you are right!

I am not a perfect bilingual (my first language is french, sorry for the mistakes with the spelling) and with these strange ways to write I should read many times before understanding the questions or the answers... it's ridiculous.

And the stupid questions of some of them... pfff... are you really surprised??? I am not, some people are stupid, that's sad...

:) Thank you, some are like you all! :)

If you are going to use a forum such as this: you should expect answers or comments from people of all walks of life, & levels of education & literacy!!!

I would sujest to people like yourself: that if they are not happy with the level of answers or comments being posted: that they should go publish them on a less open forum: or not bother reading them in the first place!!

Or failing that...get a sence of humour!!! lmao

You have a point, but I'm actually taking a Master's in Language and Literary studies, so, at least, I'm not semi-illiterate. I guess I'm not shallow, but that's not for me to decide, and I don't think I'm humorless, but feel free to prove me wrong!
