Kanye West made the world feel awkward by blurting out the george bush hates black people. Of course noone took him seriously because bush hired condeleeza rice and has never made any racist statements. BUT then hurricane Katrina hit. And America watched as thousands of Americans, mostly black, mostly women and children and elderly, perished in the hurricane. Meanwhile bush continues with his vacation.

I am among those Christians who believe when this type of
devastation comes to an area such as the south and Katrina
it is because of a violation of Biblical principles
concerning Israel. I don't think the situation would have been
different whether Bush, Kerry, Gore, or Clinton had been in
office.

The principles I refer to are specifically the Abrahamic Covenant,
Genesis 12; 2-3,ff. Also Psalm 122;6,ff.

In the past our various US administrations have pushed Israel
into situations with their neighbors that should not be.

Right before Katrina did its devatstation Secy. Rice went
to Israel and made it clear that the administration was please
with the Gaza pull out of all Israealis. And that we look forward
to similar pull outs in the West Bank. This was a definite no
no according to the Bible.

I am convinced that this was the straw that broke the camel's
back and allowed devastation to rack the south.

I am also convinced that there would be more devastation
if the current administrative attitude of strong support for Isreal's
retaliation against Hezbollah were reversed. Thank God
Almighty that Bush and Rice are proclaiming support for
Israel at this time. If you disagree with me in principle I would
like you to take a look at the 3 digit increase in the DOW
yesterday.

Televangelists from Pat Roberson to Billye Brim have expressed
similar opinions. You might say what has this got to do with
the poor black people in New Orleans. Plenty. First of all
we need to pray that our president, no matter who he or she is,
will receive God's wisdom and make the right decisions in our
nation's foreign and domestic policy. This burden is not on
our leaders but on us as Christians. I Timothy 2;1-5,ff.

Well i think it is clear that Bush is insensitive to poor people as is it common for conservatives to be severly lacking in the compassion department. And I do believe that if those Katrina victims were white then a lot more would have been done and done a lot faster.

However, Kanye West made that statement AFTER Katrina, following Bush's vacation. You phrase your question in a way that makes it sound like Kanye's comment preceded the hurricane, which is not accurate.

What an absurd question. And some of the other answers are just as bad. If any of you were watching the news...the people of New Orleans had at least 5 days notice that the hurricane may hit their city. And many people chose to violate and evacuation order just because they didn't want to leave their house behind. Houses and property can be replaced, lives can't. Anyone with any sense, no matter how poor would do whatever they needed to do to get the hell out of there.

And when the helicopters DID come, what did people do? SHOT at them is what they did!!!! It was the mayors fault for not evacuating earlier, and the state governments fault for not building up the levies .For 30 years people has talked about what would happen if a major hurricane hit there and what would happen with the soup bowl factor.Any money they got from the government, federal and state, all went on tourists attractions, a ton on the precious french quarter. None went on the levies.First and foremost the mayor, (black man), should of starting evacuating far earlier than what he did.....Like Florida or Texas does...

Now explain to me all of the looting, and the animals RAPING WOMEN in the silverdome..That Bush's fault too???

Bush never has hated Black people! Kanye West only really cares about himself and the publicity it got for him. I didn't even know who he was till he got on the news!

It wasn't the federal government's place to go into Louisiana until the governor, the one blubbering all over the news, doing wonders for women in authority, asked them. Further how is it the the Black mayor of New Orleans and his friends and family were safe, but the rest of New Orleans had to fend for themselves?

While I watched pre-Hurricane coverage, on CNN no less, they said that if there was no other option and residents couldn't find a way of getting out of the city, then they could go to the Superdome as a LAST RESORT, but they needed to bring three to five days worth of food and water with them.

Did they use it as a last resort? NO! Did they bring supplies with them? NO! They expected to be cared for by the government instead of taking responsibility for themselves and their families.

And what happened when they were in the Superdome? Other Blacks preyed on the people in there. Shooting, raping, attacking in other ways. White people didn't do that; the government didn't do that; THEY DID THAT TO THEMSELVES!!

Now that some of the city is being repopulated, the murder rate among the Blacks is so high that they've had to call in the National Guard to stop it. Seems to me that it isn't the government who hates Blacks it's Blacks who hate themselves.

You need to check your stats again! Mississippi was hit by Hurricane Katrina and all YOU saw from the pathetic media was the poor black people in New Orleans who didn't leave!

Kanye West is an idiot and his remark was inappropriate and made him really look like a fool!

Why don't you look up south Mississippi before you feel sorry for the poor minorities!!!!!!!

The local governments told the president they had everything under control and asked for back up if needed...How much do you blame the local government all of which was Democrat and most of which were black for diverting funds from the levee districts to pay environmentalist groups unions and to pay other political bills. They put their neighbors in harms way to buy votes!!!
Was the federal reaction slow?? of course it was ( with the exception of the US Coast Guard), but the federal government can only do so much until the governor asks for help..it took her (also a democrat) 47 hours to ask for that help.

On a side note I watched news before the event and heard several locals say..on camera..that they wouldn't leave because nothing is going to happen and they felt safe. Now are you blaming Bush for THEIR stupidity?

Those people perished because none of them bothered to get out when their Mayor told them to. And when Bush realized what had happened, he couldn't get people in fast enough through the debris to save them all. If they hadn't been so hard headed a lot of it oculd have been avoided. They all just stood there crying for the government to help them which is all they've done all their lives. If Bush had hated black people, he could've left them there. I hate it when people blame the government for their own laziness and stupidity. We were flooded too for two weeks after the hurricane. I didn't blame the government for not fixing our levees. Many people's homes here were destroyed. You didn't hear us complain. We rolled up our pants legs and sleeves and dug in helping each other. No government. No aid. Just each other. They should try it some time.

Just the idea, as absurd is it is, to consider that an elected sitting president "hates" a certain class or race of people because you feel alienated, or neglected because of a national disaster, is just begging to be considered a victim. This then empowers you to completely fore go your own idea of personal responsibility. Why do you feel empowered by being a victim? You think you're the only one? You feel you need a democrat to come to your rescue? Is that it? Under democrats, all minorities never suffer? Stop playing the role of a victim, and take control of your own destiny. If the government needs to step up, they will, eventually, but until then, you need to act!

GWB was on the phone with the mayor of New Orleans and the Govenor on Saturday Before the storm hit and asked if they needed ANYTHING they said NO. Under New Orleans own evacuation plan they guessed it would take up to 72 hours to evacuate New Orleans. It took our Military about that time under Adverse conditions. The pictures we all saw on TV of teh families in New Orleans were terrible but, No time was waisted and everything was done ASAP. Yes Mistakes did happen Hopefully we learned from them
