You can't beat old fashion one on one human contact! Computers may offer good research and evaluative materials but serious teaching is an oral experience!

Traditional schooling seems to me to be the most honest approach, on line schooling is fine but who is really taking the test... Where at least in the classroom you know that the people are taking there own test. Giving out certain degrees over the Internet is just wrong like anything medical or court reporting one mishap and some one could get hurt or a guilty person sent free. If I were in a business I would have to wonder did you actually do all the work for your Internet degree or did someone else help or worse do it for you.

I think for children, traditional schooling is better for them socially. Home schooling or online schooling is not healthy socially, however they do recieve more one on one than you would in a regular school setting. Children need to learn the social skills from being around other children and learning what friendships, etc...are. I know people that were homeschooled and they have always said it was very hard for them to make friends because they had never really been around kids their own age until they were allowed to attend a regular school setting in high school. For college, online is great for anyone who works fulltime but still wants to earn a degree in their spare time, plus you are still required to attend some classes or labs physically that you could not do online.

"IT" has it's place, but it's way too rigid and formatted... and easy to walk away from!
Even though "traditional schooling" can be a major drag, dealing with the quirks and the crap of many instructors and a lot of one's fellow students, it's better... nothing's gonna replace the human brain and presence for a long time yet. Unless you're looking at the aspects of data storage, memory capacity and speed of access and such!
I work with computer hardware of various manufacture... it's a living and pays my bills, but I much more thoroughly enjoyed the years I'd spent in the field of medical technology and research (and, teaching). However, circumstances caused me to make a trade-off...
That was ALL on a serious note... key of 'see'?

Traditional Classroom
A teacher has learned how to convey a lesson using experience from previous classes and questions arisen from previous students and can adjust a class accordingly. Plus the interacting with other students during the learning process also helps. Questions and Answer session can be valuable in understanding a lesson at times.
On-line schooling is sorta like taking a test with an open book in my opinion.

Personally I prefer traditional schooling because I get the support from my classmates iand teachers immediately in the classroom. It is more difficult for me to do online courses. I did one and passed successfully, however with my messed up time scheduling.
I must also say that I tend to retain more of what I learned in the class room than what I learned from reading via the internet.

I do both. I attend university but b/c I travel I take some courses online so I can travel less.
There are many pro's and cons for both.
I like the classroom atmosphere b/c your prof is there and is able to answer your questions on the spot. You get to talk with peers and get a better grasp of the course content.
However, I enjoy online b/c it saves me from driving to and from school. I experienced difficulty with WEB CT (an online program used by many Canadian schools) where it was almost impossible to talk our prof. However, I found it more realistic with my schedule to be able to do work and attend classes at my leisure. It definitely pushed me into being responsible with my time.

Online .. it allows me to work around the family commitments that I have, and still extend myself intellectually. There's no way that I could go to a traditional institution every day even though it is easier if you are in a classroom with the lecturer and able to bounce ideas off other students.

Traditional school is still more prefered for those who like to have real life interaction experience and it will suck if school online became the one for small kids who won't have the chance to build stronger personalitites. Interacting with people is very important.

It really depends on the class. I took two undergrad classes on line very easy to do, I attempted and I repeat attempted to take one of my Master courses on-line very bad idea, had to drop the course just to much required. It depends on the course try to get a syllabus to see what is required for the on-line course then make you decision, that about it sorry couldn't give you a yes or no answer.
