I had strep throat about two months ago. since that time my one tonsil has been puffy. I took antibiotics and finished all of them, but this weekend I was poking at the tonsil with a q-tip and pushed really hard on it and it exploded Puss. I don't have a fever, It doesn't hurt, No glands are sore. Do Tonsils just hold puss? why woudn't I feel like it was infected. Should I have the tonsil removed, or just call the doc for different antibiotics?

You call or visit a doctor and explain what is going on. He'll recommend the best course of action for you.

Go see the doctor again just to be safe. This is a normal symptom of Strep. I used to get Strep all the time when I was in high school. My tonsils held puss pockets, too, whenever I caught this nasty thing. I would take a Q-tip bathed in hydrogen peroxide and swab them. If there is still puss, chances are it's still infected or possibly on its way to becoming a relapse. The reason you don't feel it in that area is because tonsils are designed to catch and filter "junk" in our bodies. There is a reason tonsils were created for us. I don't suggest tonsils being removed "just because". Tonsils should only be removed if they are overlarge or constantly causing you problems. Your doctor would be able to tell based on your history. Removing tonsils used to be a fad. They've come to realize that it can cause more problems than help them if they're removed. And, of course, tonsils can only be removed when you are NOT infected. Removing tonsils is not an easy, simple procedure. It's still a surgery. Post recovery health is very important. One of my father's friends started bleeding after he came home from his tonsilectomy. By the time his parents made it to the hospital, he had already bled to death.

First of all stop poking at them!! I would call your doctor and see if he wants to see you. Having your tonsils removed, as an adult, is no fun so if you can avoid it do so. I know this sounds old fashioned but try gargling with salt water. About 1 tsp in a cup of warm water. Good Luck and STOP POKING THEM you could introduce some bacteria that would get them infected.

Tonsils have pockets in them called crypts which trap food, bacteria, etc...and form lumpy chunks with the consistency of cheese called tonsilliths. My own tonsils produce prodigious amounts of these as a regular thing, but they are a lot more prevalent after an infection life strep. Keep an eye on your tonsils, and as long as there is no pain or redness, you should be fine. I regularly clean my tonsils out of these nasty white chunks...and yes, they do look kind of like pus, and have a seriously nasty odor thanks to the dead bacteria. They are actually a cause of halitosis!

visit the Dr. and get an antibiotic....if it is not a threat, gargle as many time an afternoon as a threat w/ warmth salt water. also, tylenol sore throat (that's a liquid - blue in color) is fantastic! I used it rather of my soreness meds after I were given my tonsils out. worked tremendous! this received't treatment your difficulty, yet can help you with the indicators.

Ummm why were you poking your tonsils with a q-tip??
So since this tonsil has exploded, all the junk that was in there, you could get another infection.
Go to the doctor ASAP please.

I've heard of this before. I might suggest gargling with Listerine, and see a doctor if you can afford it. Especially if you find a doctor that cares. Someone close to me had this, as you described. But because she smoked, she only got a lecture about smoking from the doctor and nothing else.

Why would u mess with ur tonsils? and I think u mean 'pus', the green stuff..Def call a doctor and see what he says..Maybe they are swollen or u need a tonsilectomy.

better check with the doctor, but gargling with an anticeptic mouthwash usually works for me whenever I have tonsilitis.
