The status could be measured in how smart someone was and go from most smart to least smart. If there were no money the world would be in complete chaos. Everyone would think that they deserved everything more than anyone else so there would be many wars. Also, there probably wouldn't be any food or clothing because people now work for money but if there were no money people would have no reason to work. It just wouldn't work out.

Hey Mr Spam, I think that if money was eliminated from current day society, then there would be a war of status against different cultures and political parties.
If your question is whether money were never to exist, then I believe that possession of land and live stock would be measurable.
Status will find a path in any given species, human or otherwise. The means to this status is irrelevant as the outcome would ultimately be the same.

I'm guessing if there was no money status will be dictated simply by brute force, we will resort to the human caveman scenario, for example the most virile males or the most cunning e.t.c depending on the traits sought by the society or community we live in will be the "he boss" and the most fertile females e.t.c also depending on their community will be "she boss".

We'll take a leaf from the rest of the animal kingdoms book, as from my knowledge they seem to survive perfectly well without money and wealth and decide on status by favouring those more likely to benefit the human race over those less likely. Rather than put pompous wealthy halfwits in control.

So, there definitely will be status but how it will be define is a whole different thing altogether depending on where the person is unfortunate enough to get given birth in.

There is always status. Just as there is some form of currency in just about every society through history. Even when it wasn't money are we know it there were other things to represent it.

Since 'status' exist in pre-monetary societies the answer is yes. Despite the archaic Marxist critique, getting rid of money won't bring equality.

I'd like to think it would depend on job importance, in the grand scheme, I mean.

Where people who do jobs that don't really have an effect on the world (eg footballers, actors, shop workers) are seen as less important than the ones who make a difference (eg nurses, engineers, teachers). These ones should be respected for their impact on the world. This would be a fair system.

(Also, if money still existed, footballers, actors etc wouldn't be paid stupid ammounts for what they do for a living.)

Status would be measured in a couple of way.
those who would be more keen or educated would control those who were, thus developing their own status and position.

the waist line! as of yore, those with the larger waist line had more, and were consider the ones to watch and follow.

he who had the guts to take all he wanted, land, animals, etc. Certainly ones commandeering others land and taking it for himself would create a fear of class.

on and on.

The first answer is the correct answer Violence would be the standard of status.

"When money ceases to be the tool by which men deal with one another, then men become the tools of men. Blood, whips and guns….or dollars. Take your choice---there is no other.”

Beauty would be the status of a winner and not the outside like in society today but what is in the inside.

Maybe intelligence would be one too!
