I have an embarassing and annoying need to go to the toilet frequently. I don't drink alot cos i'm never thirsty. I went on holiday recently and my chap said it was like being on holiday with his nan cos I needed to go so often. If I go somewhere new, I need to find the loo first so I know where it is. I panick sometimes and think alot of it is in my head and not that I actually need the loo. I have been tested for diabetes which is negative. One night I counted 12 trips to the toilet although other nights I don't get up once. I did have numerous water infections growing up. Could this have weakened my bladder?

This could also be due to your diet. People who eat alot of salt or processed food have to wee more as water is the best way for your body to get rid of any impurities. People who drink squash and soft drinks even in small quantities can suffer from this. Stick to natural foods low in salt and spices. Also it is a myth that people have to drink 2.5 litres of water a day. This is a misquotation from an FDA report that states that the recommended intake of water is 2.5 litres a day but most of this is gained from food.

There are various things this could be.

It could be a urine infection - this needs to be checked out, as it can be treated and can cause damage if ignored.

You havent said your age, but (if you are a guy) it would be prostate related. If you are a girl, if could be pelvic muscle related. Again, these should be checked out.

It could be diabetes, although this is usually associated with thirst aswell. This is easily tested for. (You said you had been tested for this, so its unlikely).

I could carry on... However, the conclusion is, go and have a chat with the GP. You do need to pass water more often than normal, and there might be a treatable cause. Most things are not serious, and this seems to be stopping you having a relaxed life, so there is no reason why you shouldnt go and get a few things checked out.

If you are nervous about being examined by a doctor, then you can start with just a chat, and they can go through what is most likely to be the cause. There is no need to live with this, so go to the GP.

Good luck!

I do sympathise with you. I'm the same, especially at night. Sometimes I go 5 or 6 times within the first hour of going to bed. I've noticed that it's at its worst when I'm stressed or anxious (as others have mentioned), and also if I have decaffeinated drinks. These are diuretics, and make you wee more. It can help at least a bit to have decaf drinks, including fizzy stuff. You do also need to make sure you drink water - I know it's frustrating but you don't want to infect yourself by not cleaning out your system enough. Good luck X

It's illegal to stop on the hard shoulder except in an emergency, which does not include needing a wee. The reason is that the hard shoulder is a very dangerous place to be. You can take the risk if you want to, both of being prosecuted and of being wiped out by an errant truck, but I'd resign myself to a wet seat if I were you. Could be worse!

HI , i sympathse with you , i would recommend that you drink at least 2 1/2 litres of water every day and that way your bladder will be healther and after a while you will not feel the need to go to the loo so much. I do think a lot of it could be in your mind and you're thinking about it too much. You could try doing some pelvic floor exercises which should help reduce the need to pee so much. Remember to see a doctor about these things though. good luck...remember the water! :)

Dear Daz:
Most surely if you are a young person, you are suffering from a very simple thing: stress incontinence.
This is the urge to reach the toilet to emptyYour bladder, and is aggravated by anxiety (when other tests have already been negative), it is common as a symptom of anxiety, for instance, in persons undergoing exams, or in the days previous to a stressing situation, such as an exam, meeting a new girl or boy friend, giving a speech etc.
The secret is first, to identify the source of your anxiety,( is something new upsetting you life ?) and second, take on pill of 5 mg of oxybutinine twice daily (one every 12 hours), if the problem is still there, you can double the dose of such.(it reduces the sensibility of the bladder to empty itself)
If it is difficult for You to get those, then use Propantheline bromide, one tablet before each meal.
restrict the amount of clear fluids and caffeine before bedtime, as much as You can.
Let me know if you were relieved by this.
Yours sincerely

it certainly sounds like you have a weak bladder.. your doctor should be able to give you some medication which should help your problem and as you have a history infections it would be a good idea to have further tests just to ensure find out why your bladder needs to be emptied so often.. you must also try to drink more than you are presently doing..

if you had this when you were young then you should go get it checked out as it may be a sign of a continuing bladder problem, especially if you say that you dont drink a lot,and you should drink a lot,i had a lot of bladder infections and had to have a few little procedures which helped a little, its best to get checked anyway, you dont want it to go anywhere near your kidneys.goodluck and drink plenty

Go to the doctor and ask him about interstitial cystitis. My Mum had this...she was always needing to go to the loo...It turned out that she had this. It wrecks your bladder and causes it to shrink and become tough..Please get it checked just in case.
