I remember going into a tent at Oktoberfest with my German friends, and it was a real old fashioned side show attraction. I can't remember what it was called, but basically there was a round rotating floor on which two guys (or girls) tried to push or wrestle the other one off. Especially funny to watch when the operator lets a ball drop from the roof to unbalance the contestants(who are usually drunk!!!!!) trying to stand up on a moving platform.
Try the pretzels or choclate covered fruit sticks or the almonds to snack on.
You MUST ride the Eurostar rollercoaster (but only AFTER you have downed a VERY large stein of icy cold brew).

First off... you know why it's called Polka? Because it's a Polish dance. Germans don't do Polka.

That said... The Oktoberfest is essentially a fairground. There'll be rides and coasters and concession stands and that sort of standard stuff. Expect lots of Europop and Techno music. Take a bunch of cash to pay for ride tickets, then get drunk and go on rollercoasters. That's about it.

Get lot of Euros (€) in your pocket, because the Oktoberfest is an expensive tourist trap (... in my opinion) - and watch out for the many vomiting and p****** drunken people at the corners of the party tents... Good luck !

Reserve a table! We didn't but we managed to get into a tent through the side doors. If you go in through the front it'll take you forever. Also give the young one's a prost (toast) and start a conversation. In no time they want you to have a seat. Have fun!

Eat and drink.

The only safety concern that I can think of is that you need to watch for drunk drivers. I guarantee you that the cops are out watching... so if you plan to get trashed, don't drive.

... and as everywhere where you have a lot of people together, you'll run into the occasional fight. Stay out of it. If someone says something stupid - walk away.

Basically common sense. Have fun!

True story...I saw young group of kids from Italy drunk as skunks in the subway, they could hardly standup and the cops were standing there to keep some evil doers away from the kids and from stealing from them...and they let them sleep on the subway platform...I was impressed...that is the atmosphere of the whole town...I have been in the meadow and it is now kind of like Ft. Lauderdale on Spring Break...and wall to wall people...
