Females came first. Males evolved later as a mutation of the original females.

Maleness is a very useful mutation, since it provides genetic variety which helps species combat parasites, etc. But it's very clear that the female is the basic sex and the male is an afterthought. There are all-female species of lizards and many other organisms. But there are no all-male species. Basically males are just modified females tailored to a very specific role in the reproductive process.

Female came first. Before organisms capable of sexual reproduction evolved, all species were all-female species. Those who believe that male came first generally cite religion as an explanation. However, outside of religious texts, there is no evidence that these creation stories happened. (Since this question is categorized under science and not religion, I am giving the scientific answer.)

Female. They have a double XX chromosome with more genes than we do. Therefore, the male XY genome must have evolved as a subset of the XX chromosome.

The whole idea that a deity made man first is pure politics from insecure old farts in the ancient past. The irony is that the biblical reference to "man" is actually to "mankind" but the literal interpretation has twisted the original meaning.

simultaneously, gradually, though when speaking of humans today, male sex organs kind of 'grow out of female ones it seems, lips growing out to scrotum, clitoris grows out to a penis, not the other way around.. so if one ever did come before the other, I'd say female.
