I believe that this author is comparing the inner turmoil of our own emotions and thoughts to the movements of the sea. I believe that it is a very easy bridge to gap, mainly because the inertia created when you are on the sea is quite comparable to the inertia you feel when you are "flooded" with emotions. Not to mention that when you seek out dark waters, not fed by light of understanding of yourself and soul, you can feel as if you are swallowed by an endless stream of uncontrollable and unrelenting waves.

I think the speaker is lost somehow. He or she is trying to find out something about himself/herself.When you seek deep down you contemplate. The waves and the sea signify turmoil a person is undergoing. There are a lot of things that can affect a person.Just think about this:what can be considered as waves in a person's life? How about a sea?Think about these.

You seek something but something is pulling you away, you then are pulled so far away you are swallowed from the thing you were seeking in the first place.
Which would be knowledge, thats how knowledge is you seek it in your self, but things pull you away from the truth and you become part of the sea every one else is in, there lays the same knowledge but then there is the knowledge that you know yourself and shouldnt be that grain of sand that you think you are.

For me the sea is emotions... Capture by the waves is like been capture by the movement of our emotions and to be swallowed by the sea is like been swallowed by your deepest emotions, is like been swallowed by your own heart

Too much inner perception can lead to selfishness and absorbtion into oneself and a sense of isolation and despair, much like drowning.
