Well, if you're asking scientifically, there are almost an infinite number of colors in the rainbow.

It depends on how small you breakdown the differences between "colors" - is it colors that appear different to the human eye, or ones that have a different light spectrum wavelength? If the latter, then there are a very large number of colors in a rainbow!

I think you may not have been asking this from a scientific basis. So most authories would say ROYGBIV - Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo and Violet, for the seven "official" color bands of visible light.

Every color is in the rainbow. A rainbow is the manifestation of the splitting of visible light by water droplets which act as prisms. The colors red, orange, yello, green, blue, indigo and violet comprise the major distinctive colors, but based on their range of electromagnetic wavelengths, all shades and pastels and other variances of these colors that are within our eyes ability to see are present within the visible rainbow phenomenon.
