so i've been writing short stories hoping to publish a book but i asked a few questions here and they say get your stuff out there first... like getting some published in magazines... which magazines? is there any way i could get them published in more popular magazines like jane, seventeen, etc. (those readers are probably my target age group)... also, being published in oprah's magazine would be a dream, anyway that's possible?

Most magazines let you submit your stories to them, and will publish them if they're good enough, but it's tough. The major magazines have huge piles of submissions, and 99% are rejected. Local newspapers and magazines might be a better place to get started.

I suggest you get a copy of Writer's Market (it will also be at most local libraries). It tells who's looking for what and how to submit it.
