That's happend to me before as well. It just means that you need a codec update, I suggest downloading Codec-Pack-All-in-one, or XP Codec pack.

You could try getting an update for it. Try searching the Microsoft knowledge base, it may have a solution for you, depending on the error message. To be honest, I've never used Movie Maker, but as far as software goes, updating normally fixes many problems. Best of luck to you! ^_^
