If youre talking about thermometer to Yes. Ouch i know. And there are not only some for the butt of babies there are some for the butts of adults too. Ouch. But you dont have to worry just buy one that you can put into the mouth or under the arm to measure someones temperature if you dont want it in your ***.

There is no good reason to use a rectal thermometer on anyone, regardless of age. Hospitals don't use them because they are dangerous, difficult to use and unhygienic.

You can use a digital thermometer under the arm or under the tongue, or if you want high tech get a tympanic thermometer for taking temps via the ear.

Do you have some sort of rectal thermomter fetish? That's a lot of rectal thermometer questions you have....

I have a great one. It's made by The First Years and it gives a digital read out in 20 seconds or less. I still use it on my 2 1/2 year old. The only thing with rectal is you have to subtract a degree when you take their temp. this way. (If it tells you 101.5, it's actually 100.5). I bought this thermometer at K-Mart, but I've also seen it at Wal Mart and Target.

you should use an armpit thermometer first and if the temp is high you can then use the anal one to get an accurate core temp. the armpit thermometers are made to be used in the pit, look in the baby section at walmart. the anal thermometer should have disposable covers for easy cleaning and be sure to use some lubricant. you use these methods until the kid can have one in its mouth, or you can buy an ear thermometer, but they are not as accurate.

Yes. It's called a rectal thermometer. You can't get a baby to hold one under it's tongue, and a brachial temperature isn't as accurate. Of course they didn't have the tympanic thermometers before. A rectal temperature is highly accurate though.

Yes, and you can buy one at any drugstore. Don't let go of the baby while it is inserted though, the baby can hurt him/her self, you should be holding the rectal thermometer with one hand, and holding the baby still with the other.

yep...I was uncomfortable with that idea....I got the under the arm thermometer and found that a much better choice. I just didn't want to hurt my children with my ignorance. Anyway, they also make suppositories for high fevers....those go in the butt, too, for infants.

Yes. It's more accurate than any other, too. Don't worry, it doesn't hurt. It can also be used to help if baby is constipated. You just put a little vaseline on it and put it in. Seriously. I'm not making a joke.

of course - its a mercury thermometer with a smaller, sleaker tip for fitting right in the butt.

yes however they make temporal artery scanners for taking temps now, they only cost around 35 dollars from walmart and u just scan your babys head with it, and there isn't the uncomfortable rectal thing.... much easier for both of u.
