We are starting early this year, because we don't want to do the same old project that everyone else does.

The project needs to prove a hypothesis (although a volcano is a nice demonstration, it does not prove a hypothesis) Last year we did "Why do I have to shake my salad dressing" showing the oil and water separate by doing several liquid experiments.

Does someone have a unique project that 8 year olds could do easily?
Thanks!

Have your twins do their science project on how to tell time with out using a watch or clock. They can build water clocks, sun dials, sand hour glass, and a candle clock. They can look up different ways time has been kept in the past, on the Internet. It is a neat project to do. Our grandson did this and received an A+ for a grade.

Hypothesis: Can you tell time without using a watch or a clock?

How about something on cloning; genotype vs phenotypical gene expression.

They could start with a hypothesis regarding how similar (or dissimilar) clones are to one another, and then document how similar and dissimilar they are to one another (identical twins are indeed clones of one another, though there is no "original"). Don't spill the beans that they are themselves clones until AFTER they generate their hypotheses. . . . .

Given the negative, somewhat spooky connotations associated with "clone" in pop culture, you might want to start out by talking about how clones are simply organisms that are genetically identical; maybe discuss how a plant raised from a clipping of another plant is a clone of the first plant, etc. Heck, you could throw some plant clones into the study too.
