Some snakes can be sexed by viewing external physical differences such as a longer or wider tail, etc. However, the most common and accurate methods are "Popping" and "Probing". Both methods are used to check for the male hemi-penes (the male sexual organ). In popping, pressure is applied at the tail and behind the cloaca to evert the hemipenes or scent glands of the female. This is by far the most accurate method because you can easily tell one from the other if done properly. Popping is usually done on newborn snakes, but can be done on older snakes if the person doing the procedure is experienced and depending on the snake. Probing is a more common method, although not as accurate. With probing, a metal probe is inserted into the cloaca towards the tail and the distance the probe is inserted will usually tell the sex of the snake. Males typically probe deeper as the probe is inserted into a hemipene, and females will typically probe more shallow. The distance is measured in scales, and it depends on the species of snake. Probing is probably at least 97% accurate.

Both procedures should only be performed by an experienced person such as a vet or breeder. If done improperly, you can damage the snake which can potentially be fatal.

It really depends on the snake. Some pythons such as ball pythons, you can tell by their tails, males i believe the short stubby tails and females have the long skinny tails, then agian could be vice versa. Some snakes have little spurs on the underside of their tail, and some have difference in appearance, such as color or length. The sure way to check is to take it to a reptile breeder(a very known one) or to a vet. They will do a probe test, which they stick a metal probe in the anal canal, and search for certian give aways, takes a few minutes, doesn't hurt the snake.

I WOULD SAY YOU NEED TO HAVE IT PROBED BY A PROFESSIONAL. BUT ONLY DO THIS IF IT IS REALLY NECESSARY TO KNOW. ARE YOU GOING TO BREED IT? DO YOU PLAN ON HOUSING IT WITH OTHER SNAKES?
USUALLY MALE SNAKES ARE SKINNIER AND LONGER THAN FEMALES. FEMALES ARE A LITTLE MORE THICK BODIED AND SHORTER(THEY ALMOST SEEM STUBBY COMPARED TO THE MALE TO ME). BUT THIS ISNT 100%...
