I got mine pierced at 15 years old. Yes, it hurt considerably. They take a triangular instrument and pinch your belly skin in between it and clamp it down. Then they take the needle and peirce the skin. They then insert the jewelry at the same time as taking the needle out.
It DOES get infected for sure. Mine did several times. The key was - get a little drinking glass and fill it with warm to hot water. Add a decent amount of sea salts and soak your belly button with this.
It helps kill infection and prevents it from getting worse or returning.

If you so choose to do so, take deep, long, relaxing breaths, and time it so that you exhale as the needle goes through. Breathing like this will both prepare your blood, your nerves, and your skin, and will aid the needle's quick passage. Admittedly, I do not have my belly button pierced, but I just got my tongue and cartilage pierced two months ago (I've had a total of 8 piercings), and used this technique to minimize the pain for the last 4. If you use a teaspoon of sea salt or kosher salt (not iodide salt) per 8 ounce glass of water, and swab the piercing with it no more than twice a day (but at least once a day), it will help it heal quicker, reduce swelling at the site, and reduce infection. Also, wear loose shirts/pants to prevent it rubbing on the clothing, and do not use healing ointments like Neosporin (which prevent oxygen flow, and causes a gunky mess inside the wound).

In short, it will hurt some (depending on your threshhold of pain), but there are steps you can take to lessen the pain, and there is always a chance of infection if you don't treat it properly.

It may hurt, more likely a pinch though, And the answer to your other question, will it get infected all depends on your body chemistry and how well you take care of it. I found the best cleansing solution is 50% water, 50% bactine. Squeeze a little on a q-tip and rub it on the ring and around the hole while moving the ring through the hole to get the solution into the hole itself. Do this every 4 hours or so. Use anti-bacterial soap on it only; I learned that the hard way. Also if you are going to get it done, wait till it's not too hot so that you don't sweat on it. But not when it's too cold cuz you are going to want to wear pants that are loose and low riding and a shirt that won't rub on it.

***********

Oh, and once the infection went away, because I was using rose scented soap, the piercing healed in about 2 months. Along with all my other piercings.

my friend got her belly button pierced when she was 11 and then again when she was 13 and she said that it does hurt a little but the the top one hurt the most because if u didnt know u can get ur belly button pierced on either the top or the bottom or any other way but yea it mostly depends on your pain tolerance. and about the infected part it shouldnt unless the piercing place is unsanitary or any of the equipment is.

and o yeah i would wait til winter to do it if i were u bc u cant go swimming for like 3 months.

If it is done correctly and taken care of correctly than it will not hurt very much or get infected. You have to keep it clean or it will get infected. Go to different tattoo/piercing shops and check out the space. Make sure that it is very clean, I mean extremely clean and certified too. Those papers should be posted somewhere in there saying that they are health dept certified or whatever it says. Also talk to the piercer about how to keep it clean. They will tell you how to take care of it the proper way. Good luck!

I think that anything you do to modify your body will have some element of pain. I personally have two tattoos and do not equate that process with pain...childbirth is painful...body modification can be painful as well.

My daughter had her belly button pierced and she said it was uncomfortable when the waist of her jeans hit that spot.

Just make sure that you keep the piercing clean and you wear good jewellry and you should be okay.

Yeah, its gonna hurt.

No, it wont get infected as long as you get it done professionally (and not at a friend's house or something) and take care of your peircing.

hi! i've got had many piercings in the previous, and the particularly piercing isn't in many cases the subject. It particularly does only sense like a rapid pinch. For me, as quickly as I had my abdomen button accomplished the biggest subject is that it bled lots for the 1st 40 8 hours or so. additionally, therapeutic that's style of painful in a sore style of way because of fact it may take from 6 months to a 300 and sixty 5 days to heal. in case you somewhat like it I say decide for it although. it is so nicely worth it. :) solid success!

For the last time, stop trying to pierce parts of your body that are not conducive to piercing! It takes a year for the belly piercing to heal with much attention and care.

It's gonna hurt and it could get infected. Whether that will happen is yet to be seen.

Navel piercings only sting. It depends on how immune you are to large needles. Your piercing may become infected if you do not properly clean it. Make sure youre not allergic to the metal.
