I grew up watching McEnroe and have always followed Agassi also. Andre is a great player and humanitarian. Just look at Andre's charities and his prep school in Arizona. McEnroe in his day was great to watch. People who never played tennis in their life would watch John play just to see what he would do next. So both are great champions but I would have to say McEnroe overall did more for tennis on the court. His rivalries with Borg and Connors cannot compare to Andre and Pete.

As a player, I think that McEnroe was more dominant at his very best. Agassi does earn some points for longevity, though. One plus for each: they were both brilliant Davis Cup (I know, who cares?!) players.
As a person, I'd give Agassi the edge. He evolved into a truly good guy and a great competitor. McEnroe was and is, well, a great personality (and competitor).
Tennis knowledge? Both rate very high, and they're both pretty bright people. McEnroe is a terrific color commentator on televised matches.
