All this stuff about "get to the emergency room" immediately is ridiculous. You're not going to die from a bruised arm. Even if you broke it, it'll keep for a day or so. Just be careful with the arm.
In the absence of any other symptoms (I assume that you can use your hands, open and close your fingers, etc.), I'd say that you probably hit your humerus bone (sometimes called the "funny bone" because of the similarity in pronunciation of "humerus" and "humorous). That tends to send "pins and needles" through your whole arm (sometimes even your hand). Unless you start running a fever or vomiting, don't worry too much about it. However, if it doesn't improve by tomorrow, check with your primary care physician. He or she will tell you whether you need to go to the emergency room.

if you have pins and needles in your arm, after knocking it, i would go down to a and e, it sound as if you have a nerve problem, this need checking out. myself i do not like the fact of pins and needles .
you gave no sign and symptoms other that the are feeling heavy, i know there will be some swelling, with the structure of upper arm, and the two lower are bones at the elbow join there is plenty opportunity for something to be damage.

you may have pinched a nerve causing the pins and needles feeling. i get this feeling when i rest my elbow on a table, it cause a numbing tingling feeling to go down my arm to outer hand and pinky. anyway it may be nerves. the soreness is your bodys way of saying "ow" that hurt and the soft tissue damage will take a week or so to heal and you might try icing it every 4 hours or so for 24-48 hours and then some moist heat, like a wet wash cloth heated in the microwave for a minute or less(no to hot) and do this over and over for 15-20 minutes of heat on the area. ice first though to help take down any internal swelling and then heat to softened up the muscles and tendons that may have been injured.
sounds like soft tissue injury to me. if there is obvious swelling and bruising and ofcourse pain then these are all signs of a possible break in a bone. if this is the case or the pain persists for more than a few days then a drs. visit maybe in order. you might want to use some anti-inflammatory meds, ie. advil ar aleve for he pain and or internal swelling.

you will be ok in a a few days or so, you are knocked the nerve and it takes a while for it to repair, problem is that because you feel pins and needles it seems very serious. My partner plays rugby and last season took a nasty knock to his shoulder, he suffered with numbness then pins and needles, it took a while for that injury to repair (about 3 months) but is now fine.

You probably hit a nerve - there is a nerve that runs over the elbow, and this will give you pins and needles. This will hopefully get better by itself. If it is not improving, you need to get it checked out, as you may have chipped a bone, and the only way to decide that is with an x-ray. It is unlikely, but should be checked out as it will need to be fixed. Trundle down to your local A+E and get it checked. (take a good book, as you will have to wait if its anything like my local!)

You've the area called "the funny bone", meaning you've probably hitting the brachial (or another perhaps?) nerve, that's where the tingling comes from. Just give it a second for the pain to die down. Hold ice on it if you have to, it will help the swelling and pain.

Ow! Hitting your funny bone isn't really funny!
The heavy/pins and needles thing usually goes away on its own. Though it will be painful until then. If it's still painful tomorrow, then it's time to worry and see a doctor.
Good luck!
