Good question. The United Nations is a very good idea in principle, but doesn't work because when all is said and done it has no power or jurisdiction over anyone! They have the ICJ that acts as the world court where they are able to pass sanctions and all that crap, but they don't have a miltary. They have no means of forcing countries to do anything... thats why America always looks like the bully of the world because we end up sending our troops.
Most of the UN troops are from the US... also most of the world sees the UN as a puppet of the United States, so many nations around the world have a bitter taste in their mouth about the UN.
That doesn't mean the UN cannot make the world a better place, it is servers as a global network between thousands of Non-profits all over the world, but will always be limited because has no soverignty over the world. Without the use of force the UN will never be powerful enough to achieve its original goals.

I agree - get rid of it. It is corrupt beyond fixing. It is what happens when a bureaucracy gets out of control. It is wasteful, hypocritical and not worth saving. The inmates control the asylum and there is nothing worthwhile in it to make any effort in saving it. It is a joke and not worth all the gazillions spent to operate it. It's just a puppet organization for despots and dictators to wave their noses at the rule of law, and then this wimpy, do-nothing bunch of crooks will only shake their fingers at nations that are bent on destroying civilization.
This entire organization would be better off if it did not exist - as it is, it offers weak thinking liberals hope that they can solve problems through diplomacy and negotiations, while in reality, the bad actors of the world hide behind it in order to continue breaking international laws and committing crimes against humanity.

The UN was a great concept that had good beginnings. Too much greed, politics and corruption have decayed it to the cancer that it is today. My hopes against hopes would be many of them stepping down or aside for new leaders to bring back credibility to the organization. To them though it is business as usual. I wish the US would quit paying them for awhile. We donate the largest amount.

The majority of countries our ruled by despots or very corrupt governments. Until that changes the UN will be a part of the problem and not a part of the solution. Only when the UN can be manipulated by events can it act with one voice.

i'm not sure "getting rid" of the UN would improve it..
maybe if America started participating again and paying all the debt it owes to it the UN may improve
