I think we should do away with marriage period and adopt the civil union philosophy for all. With the divorce rate being over 50% no one respects the supposed sanctity of marriage anyway; even the bible thumpers. Such an oxymoron.

I believe gay marriage should be recognized as equal to straight marriage.

I also believe that there should be some sort of penalty for people making a contract, receiving benefits and protections because of that contract then not keeping the contract.

When people get over a thousand special rights, benefits and protections because of the contract of marriage, then end the lifelong contract in seven to ten years, it is fraudulent. Fraud is against the law in this country. Nobody seems to mind. Not even the evangelical christians who want homosexual marriage banned. Even though the same bible they use to condemn gay marriage condemns divorce FAR more often than it does homosexual behavior.

Hypocrisy is the reason this happens. People are more worried about what "other" people are doing than they are about making their own lives better. Humans tend to be rotten to each other, huh?

Know one should ban divorce, people just have to make the right decisions in order not to get a divorce after marriage. Gay marriage on the other hand is wrong and should not to approved anywhere. God man man and woman for a reason, to give birth to a population.

Here is a theory that I have come across on the net. Since all these states are stating Marriage is between one woman and one man doesn't that make it illegal to remarry? If you get a divorce you can never remarry in those states. If your husband or wife dies, you cannot remarry.

Because these are conservative states and they are strict constitutionalists and they can only read their constitution as written, they have made a major screw up. I know this does not answer your question so here you go.

Nope. Can't have abused wives made to stick with their abusers.

Great question!!! Since hetero marriage is such a secure sacred religious commitment made to God...I really wanna hear the lame answers to this one.
...like alslyk or whatever above...so she has virtually said that anyone who is unable or unwilling to procreate ...should not be allowed to marry...How pathetic is that argument.

People that are so against gay marriage because they want to protect the sancitity of marriage should. However, I think any couple that wants to get married should. 2 men getting married does nothing to my commitment to my husband.

They would never allow this to happen. I think it should be banned anyway except for special circumstances. This would make people think before they got married.

Good argument. How are we supposed to hurt an institution that already has more than a fifty percent failure rate? KUDOS!
