I saw a question on a betta fish molting, and was wondering. What ar e the recognizable differences? I mean, I know that scale rot is a desease and molting is shedding (for lack of a better term), but i was wondering what the physical difference was?

Molting is the shedding of feathers, chitin, and scales. This is done as the animal out grows it's skin. I'm not not aware of any aquarium fish that does this. If it looks like your fish are molting, or shedding they are very sick. Most likely fin rot, or something like velvet.

Um... fish don't molt or shed. My bird molts her feathers, and reptiles shed their skin. Fish simply get bigger (kind of like people).

If you see a fish with his scales coming off, he either got scraped pretty hard on something, or he has a disease.

Well that's a pretty easy one to answer. Fish don't molt.
