When teams have a high pick in a drapth
do u think the team should drapth to fill a positon they are week in
r should they drapht the best player availabe (or with the most potential)

Me I think that it is best to drapht the best player and fill holes with trades and Free Agents
I don't think it is smart to fill a postion in the drapht because if a rookie is not ready to play (which happens most of the time) or is a Bust ur screwed

In the early picks (1st-5th), the most talented players should always go first. This is the way to ensure that the best potential is rewarded and you don't have contract disputes such as New Orleans is having now. This prevents players whose skills don't merit #1 pick money from getting overpaid, and this actually keeps overall salaries from rising too quickly.

However, if a team with the 1st/2nd pick absolutely does not need the top skill player, that team should trade for the position they do need. I think that Houston missed a HUGE opportunity to get a proven defensive end rather than taking a chance on a rookie (and WAY overpaying).

For example, don't you think a team such as the Colts would have traded Dwight Freeney to get Reggie Bush? Freeney or another pro-bowler would have made a much bigger impact on Houston's D-line than a rookie. Just my 2 cents.

Well...look what happened with New Orleans.....they had no need for Reggie Bush...at all.Houston knew they didn't need him...so they passed....New Orleans needed him even less and they wasted the 2nd overall pick on him...Now McAllister is likely to want a new team next season, why would he want to stay there? That's a waste of tallent if you ask me, that guy was very good considering the team he was on.

I think a team should get the roster filled in free agency leaving the position open that they want to use the first round pick on. Why pay them those high sallaries if they are benched for so long....another waste. I think most of the draft is drafting for skill and not need by a lot of the first picks...about half way through the first round it looked like teams were drafting more on a need basis...but a lot first picks were questionable...oh well.

High picks draft talent. Lower picks draft for need.
