You need tutoring in the very basics of algebra, and since I don't know your level of understanding, this is difficult to explain at a distance. Seek personal help with your math, and ask questions when you don't understand. The only way for you to learn the skill is to let your teacher know if you don't get it. If your teacher is not agreeable to simple questions, that is not a good teacher. Find someone who has more patience to help. You should never be made to feel bad about what you don't understand. If you simply don't like paying attention or have no interest, then you will need to bite the bullet and concentrate. Don't get defeated. You CAN learn to solve these problems on your own, and will enjoy the accomplishment.

The purpose of an algebra equation is to isolate the unknown, x in this case, on one side of the equation.

Parentheses indicate that everything inside is acted upon by the factor outside.

First multiply out the left side:

6(2-x) =

12 - 6x = 4x

Add 6x to both sides

12 - 6x + 6x = 4x + 6x =

12 = 10x

Divide both sides by 10:

12/10 = 10x/10 =

6/5 = x

x = 6/5 = 1 1/5

with 6(2-x) you can get rid of parenthesis by multiplying 6 by everything inside the parenthesis (6*2=12 and 6*x=6x)

12-6x=4x

(move 6x over to right with the 4x by adding 6x to each side)

12=10x

(divide by 10 on both sides)

12/10=x so x=1.2

Go ahead and multiply out the left side of the equation (both the 2 and the -x get multiplied by the six). Now it should look like something a little simpler to solve, without any parentheses to worry about!

this is how u solve it:
6(2)-6(x) =4x
12 - 6x =4x
-6x-4x =-12
-10x = -12
x = 12/10
x = 6/5 or 1.2
