i cleaned...real good, not saying you are dirty, i'm not! BUT i cleaned all over the counters under everything and all around the sink...and then i poured bleach and draino down the drain. I then cleaned under the sink real good. I try to cut down on leaving food out...gnats like the smell of beer and liquor as well, if you have some lying around leave it out as bait and spray em!

To prevent them in the first place your mother should select healthy, bug-free plants for your home. STEP 2: Repot indoor plants in sterile potting soil if you suspect a problem. STEP 3: Allow the soil to dry between watering - gnats thrive in a warm moist environment. STEP 4: Remove any diseased or rotting roots. To catch them STEP 1: Put 1 tsp. of apple cider vinegar, fruit juice or wine in a small bowl of water near infested plants to trap and drown adult gnats. STEP 2: Tempt adults to lay eggs away from plants by putting sprouting wheat grains in a container next to the plants. Bury or burn egg-laden sprouts after a few days and repeat until laying cycle is broken (8-20 days). STEP 3: Remove 1/4 inch of topsoil and replace with diatomaceous earth (the skeletal remains of marine algae) to kill the soft-bodied larvae. STEP 4: Use yellow sticky traps to lure and capture the gnats.

I had that last year in the summer, at walmart you can buy these 2 sided sticky strips and put them in your window where the little buggers will go, you will be amazed (and grossed out-lol) and how many stick to the paper, also I found that my indoor plants-tropical were an attraction for them to, spray the dirt in the plants if you have any, you can try apple cidar vinegar, personally it didn't work for me as well as the sticky stuff, I found it in the plant-garden section....under $6.00 to! Good luck!
