The best approach would be to create an environment no conducive for violets to grow in the first place. Mowing high and mulching to replenish nutrients to start. Fertilizing with a balanced "complete" fertilizer will not only produce greener turf, but also stimulate root development. When creating such conditions, this naturally chokes undesirable weeds out. Use an herbicide with "triclopyr" and mix as the label states. The absolute best time to spray this weed is in bloom (purple flower), during spring and fall. This is when the plant opens its pores.

Diversity is good for the lawn and the soil. Why not leave them alone? Wild violets are not considered weeds by everyone. Some wild violets are even sold in plant nurseries.

Use a broad spectrum "wide leaf weed" killer.
Violets are pretty if they stay where they belong, in a flower bed!

Why on earth would you want to kill such beautiful things? What a shame. You should be thanking the Earth for providing you with such beauty.

Salt it. Salt the whole lawn. I promise, no violets will grow. Ever again.
