MP3 blogs post free and legal music regularly. There is a huge network of them and you can search the blogs on Hype Machine or Elbo.ws for a song you like. The selection is limited but it's one of the handy free ways of finding new music, downloading some singles, new or old, and they always have the really random tracks that you can find. Many times I find the tracks I want on those two sites. My favorites are badmintonstamps and stereogum.com.
