My son also grinded his teeth. There's nothing you can do (except buy earplugs) It sounds horrible. It would only cause damage if it were done over years.

My oldest son has been grinding his teeth for the past 3 years now, I talked to the dentist and doctor about it. Both said to ignore the grinding (I am assuming you're meaning that he does it in his sleep and that's when mine does it too). They told me that studies have been finding when the child is woken up to stop grinding it tends to cause sociopathical behaviors - as the child grinds once they are in the deep sleep and then jerked out of sleep to stop grinding and the cycle just repeats itself.
If he's doing it during waking hours, my only suggestion would be to tell him no. I had to do that with my youngest son who thinks it's hillarious to watch me squirm - which teeth grinding does to me. I just told him "No! Owies! Don't do that!" Sometimes I had to even tap his mouth so he know I was talking about his mouth. Good luck!

My 10 month old has 8 teeth and grinds them. I just stick my finger in her mouth and she stops. I can't handle the noise it makes!

Make sure that they don't become loose. Check them regularly. If they fall out that young, he or she can choke on them. Newborns sometime have teeth when they are born, but as long as they are not loose.. the doctors don't worry about them.
