Like others have said, you can´t save the world. If you are a Christian, you should know the answer already.
As for making a difference, yes, you can do that as an individual. If you want to effect change around you, a positive change...start with yourself because the only person you can really change is yourself. Don´t ever worry about changing others even if your motives are good and honest.
By the way, don´t ever try to change someone you love. It never works.

I hate to sound pessimistic, but I don't think everyone in the whole world could save the world. Only God can save us now. It's kind of like we've been programmed for self destruction.

Saving the world cannot be accomplished by one person. One person can have a ripple effect on the world, but to begin with, try not to set such a huge goal. Start with your neighborhood. Try to "save it" by helping out with the safety and cleanup. Contact your city government to volunteer. Be a better person and inspire people around you.

As much as we want to and as hard as we try we can't save the world by ourselves, but together we can make a huge difference. United we stand ! Divided we fall! With God on our side we can't fail. "We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us."

Replace George Bush with some form of root vegetable (potato, turnip, etc) in a cheap suit. No one will know the difference and their will be much less bloodshed.
