I'm almost 90 % sure I'm about to be offered 2 administrative positions. They both said the pay will be about the same (not as much as I'd like) and offer the same benefits, etc.

One of the companies I really like but there is no room for advancement and the position won't be available for a few weeks.
I'm getting unemployment but it may run out soon, I'm not sure.

The other company is well known, tons of room for growth but not really an industry that I care about.

My issue is, should I go for the company that really doesn't interest me but offers growth and could possibly pay 2 dollars more or should I go for the lesser where I feel really comfortable but no room for growth?

You should go for the job that interest you and that you are best at, because right now you may be getting less pay, but with your talent with it and interest in it you may get promoted into something better!

I like the idea of room for growth for security reasons, HOWEVER...

if you take a job in a field that just doesn't interest you, eventually it will boooorrrreee you to tears.

Take the one that might be a gamble. Get experience. Learn everything. Take that with you to your next big-time job in the field you like ;)

I went to a "boutique" advertising firm as an administrative assistant. I was told up front that it wasn't a "jumping off" job to get into the firm, that it was strictly administrative and I wouldn't have much room for advancement.

I got there and immediately learned how to write press releases. I had to attend weekly meetings, because I took the notes - and I took mental notes for myself.

I did transcription for the company's president - so I learned how to talk to customers.

I watched the sales people in action - I took note of what the successful ones did that was different than the unsuccessful.

I asked questions.

I know now that if I ever wanted to go into advertising sales, my tenure at that firm would be indispensible. I learned a LOT. What you're going into will put you into the heart of everything. Just keep your eyes and ears open.

Patience is a lost art with many people - but it's so handy when you want to make your life better for the long haul! Good luck!

Always go for where there is growth with a well-known company. Even if you don't like the industry, the experience there as well as having them on your resume will pay off later. You know going in that you probably won't stay there - I never land a job thinking that will be my permanent resting place - so when you do decide to move on you want to have a resume that "shines." Being able to say you've worked for a well known company will give you that as well as credibility.

I would suggest going to the company that will actually give you room to grow because you never know how capable you are until your push your self to the limits. Who knows you may end up very far in that company and make 3-4 times more money than you would make initially. You can always adapt to the industry and learn now things. Also keep in mind that as you move up you will gain a lot of experience as well, than it can be used to find even a better position in a better company perpahs.

I would ask in return, what do you plan on doing with your life? Are these administrative positions where you plan on settling and working at for the rest of your life?

I could go either way depending your answer to that. If you want to settle down, go for the comfy job if you can handle the pay. If you want to add to you resume, go for the job that has room for advancement. Use the knowledge to apply towards something in your future.

Either way you pick you can always find another job! Hang out at whatever one you choose for a year (so you don't look like a flake) and then find something else. Good luck!

Do you want to be stuck at the bottom forever?

If you really have no ambition to work hard, do not want to learn new skills and do not care about having a true career then by all means go with the easy job.

It can be extremely difficult to break out of the admin position. Once an admin people tend to always see you in that supportive role. Go with a large company where you can quickly seek out career advancement. Otherwise, you'll be an Admin forever.

Go for the company with possibility to grow. Once you start work you'll get involved and this industry will be what you think about and want to do you best job in. People are like that, they turn to and tend to like what they do. (If you cant have what you love, love what you have- kind of attitude) Chose growth

And by the way: when you read this statement - pro growth/con what you want - and you really, really feel this is wrong for you (gut feeling) choose what is right for you!

Good luck.

Go to the company that offers growth. If its well known, they probably arent going out of business anytime soon, so there is also stability. You said you were working in administration, so I don't really see what it matters what the company actually does? An administrator is an administrator, reagrdless of where they work. Go for the stable company with advancement.

I would push yourself to do the one you think doesn't interest you. It may, and the room for growth would allow for quick advancement - you could make an upward move to another company within 1-2 years, whereas if you take the other one, you could only ever make a lateral move at best.

Take the second!

You should always allow yourself room for growth. There is a possibility that you might grow to like the industry. Sometimes we all have to step out of our comfort zones.

By the way, congratulations on the two job offers. I am certain that whatever decision you make, you will be happy.

Go with what you love, work hard. First one in last one out kinda deal. You will be rewarded. You will get experience in the business that you love and will give you room for growth. Just maybe at a different company.
