Is she really that transparent? Is she really that uniformed and uneducated about everything?Did you know that in some of her questions and/or answers she actually suggests that there is a direct link between being gay and STD's?Or that being gay means a shorter life?As if though straights are not affected by any STD's and have only the longest of lives..Just as long as they are straight...I am serious!Everytime I see anything posted here from her it is propoganda of the most meanest and ill-informed type with nothing to back up her words other then more propoganda.

Is she for real?

Julie (or Julia?) is completely serious.

She is ill informed, has read what really amounts to propaganda (for example her statistics on gay lifespan are taken from Dr. Paul Cameron, whose work in the field was deliberately skewed, and led to his being defrocked, thrown out of one professional association (Psychologists), condemned by another (Sociologists) and eventually, if memory serves, reprimanded by yet a third, though I don't remember which one -- it may have been the AMA. (American Medical Association) Cameron now can not practice as a psychologist as I understand the censure he received -- and instead runs a "faith-based" right wing group that is anti-gay. Many groups still quote his study, even though it failed peer review and has been completely discarded by every serious academic I've ever met, as well as being roundly condemned by professionals everywhere in the Western world.

Yet, I have no question that she believes it.

I think that to some degree she means to be well informed and thoughtful -- and thinks that what she is posting is reasonable. I function day-to-day in the academic world. I have only to walk down the hall to question two colleagues that are Ph.D.s in the field of psychology, or if I prefer, two colleagues who are biologists, one of them a specialist in pharmacology, the other one in nutrition and human biology.... This is not only almost certainly not an option she has, I doubt it is one that she would take if she could.

I find their knowledge of the hoaxes and frauds of people like Paul Cameron much more compelling than someone on the net quoting him from (probably) 2nd or 3rd hand sources. She would not find them more compelling.

I very much doubt that she thinks she will influence me however. She is trying rather, to influence some frightened 14 year olds, convince them to hate themselves and, thus, she supposes I would think, "rescue" them and assure that they turn straight. The fact that the research of thousands of scientists says this is impossible, as compared to the work of dozens, many of them as much quacks as Cameron who say it is possible -- doesn't phase her, or possible even occur to her. She believes that "truth" is on her side, and is convinced that scientific fact has no real meaning in that context.

Sadly, she is wrong. I say sadly because I am absolutely sure that she means well -- and I rather respect her for trying to do good. The evil that actually occurs because of her actions is not only unknown to her, it is inconceivable to her.

Rather than condemn her, I would ask people to think positive thoughts for her, or meditate for her, or pray for her --- whatever your spiritual path inclines you to do. I pray (I'm Anglican) that she will be healed and well and happy with herself and others. What else?

Have a nice night.

Kind thoughts,

Reynolds

I can't believe that anybody is as deliberately stupid as Julia..Her questions are inane and reek of those of the mental abilities of a young child...Her primary source of information sounds like it comes from "the National Enquirer" or someother sensationalistic piece of trash...I'm sure that the people in Africa with AIDS could pass on some lessons about being HIV positive and not homosexual to her...I do think, however , she is for real...I think she really thinks that she is superior enough to be on this forum.. It's really quite a sad situation. Why she's picked the GLBT caucus to be so vocal on---who knows...maybe she really is a closet case...but if she is it'll take plutonium to open her closet door for her......I just try to read her comments and then realize that they don't pertain to the real world--just the world according to Julia.

BUT what if Julia is really a DRAG QUEEN!!!

I'm with UNCLEFRUNK....
I've been following Julia around for quite some time and she's always been very bright in most areas.....very articulate and clever. But she always misses the mark in her arguments about the gay community as a whole. The ONLY thing she has going for her in this arena is her bible, but, unfortunately she misses the mark on that, too.

I give up. She's got her bible so far up her **** she's reading it from up there....which cannot be a good thing.

I keep asking her why she's so obsessed with putting her nose in other people's bedrooms.

She definitely has some problems, but they belong to her and she can have them.

I figure she's teaching me the most important lesson there is.
How NOT to be.

I'm glad you asked this question, because it allows me to say something I would never waste time saying on posts like those of Julia. (I just scanned her Q&A, and all I can say is why bother?)

It's best to completely ignore these fools altogether.

In the case of ones like Julia, you're wasting your time and probably are feeding their neurotic compulsions.

In many cases, if you take a moment to check the poster's Q&A, you'll see that profile just came into existence and appears to be a profile made just for the purpose of posting negative or downright nasty comments. I've found several of those today.

Also, by checking the poster's Q&A, you can easily discern the few "valid" or serious questions and just as quickly dismiss all the rest.

Maybe if we all ignore them, they'll take their frustrated selves elsewhere. At least we won't be feeding them.

I have never noticed this Julia chick until today..I read one of her very provoking questions
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ar19omdYfmMPU3.HopVX2OHsy6IX?qid=20060725124214AAVS1mH
and I think that persons should NOT respond to her questions...this girl is definitely mischievous and gets turned on by seeing nasty comments from people in the GAY community...I really suggest that no one respond and this chick will slowly slip out of yahoo answers.

Unclefrunk, Dustin Lochart, and BooBooKananas are all right on the money. Julia is a very intelligent person; I've read a lot of her responses to some of the crazier questions and in general I've found them to be witty, clever, and articulate. Unfortunately, it seems like she has a serious blind spot when it comes to homosexuality. Whenever she touches upon that subject, she falls victim to the slippery slope arguments and other logical fallacies that it seems like she'd normally be smart enough to avoid.

I think that in general her heart is in the right place, and she means well, but she's badly, badly misinformed when it comes to homosexuality.

Unfortunately she is for real. She is also a very insecure and SMALL person! I generally tend to ignore her, you know, don't poke the bear. She actually has some brains about her but her questions and comments in this area are so unthought out and uninformed that she sounds ignorant most of the time. I feel sorry for her, what a sad little life she must have.

I think Julia is asking these questions that she knows are going to get people riled up for a reason. She wants people's attention and in particular gay people's attention. It is a shame because I think she is intelligent and she could get the answers to the questions she is really wanting to ask if she stopped trying to accuse and make half thought out links and actually just straight out asked what she wanted to know.

For someone who has intelligence (and she does), I'm generally disheartened by her attitude and that her arguments should be so ill-thought out and presented.

Of course, Julia and I are diametrically opposed in our points of view - but I do wish that, as the Devil's advocate (sorry Julia, I couldn't resist, LOL!), her commentary were more solidly founded.

Then perhaps we could have a real debate, instead of the juvenile back-biting and *****-slapping that is par for the course.

I believe Julia is very much "for real."

I believe Julia believes every word she posts.

I think Julia is, in general, a reasonable and intelligent person.

I believe Julia is misinformed.

I believe that Julia won't consider the possibility that she has/is wrong about anything, therefor people who know better tend to think of her as stupid.

I know better. I disagree with nearly everything she posts, but I will always believe she has the right to believe and post them... no matter how wrong I think she is.
