Crepe Myrtle-- now in at least three sizes--miniature-- maybe 2 ft-- small-- maybe 4 feet-- and tall-- as high as the eave of a ranch style house. The plant can be cut back and be bushy-- can be limbed up( taking off lower limbs) showing the bark which peels-- and pretty flowers in many colors-- predominately shades of pink-- white and I have a true red that is new to me. Check with your local nursery grower-- there are some care with this plant-- but it is minimal.
Snow Ball-- some climb-- some are really tall-- usually in white.
Pyrocantha (sp)-- prickly plant-- can be espeliered on a fence-- has white nice flowers and berries in red, yellow or orange--
My brother in San Bernardino has a daisy type plant that blooms year round- don't know what it is.
good luck

None of these answers mean anything if you don't prep the soil.
Most perennials love a rich organic well-drained soil. If you spend the time and money on soil prep there are a lot of possibilites for your garden

Peonies big beautiful flowers, smell great, live for 50-100 years no pruning in fact they might die off if you mess with them they die if you tranplant also. they are a good leave me alone plant. put wire around them before they bloom the flowers will be about 8-9 inches across the wire helps hold them off the ground

Perennial Hibiscus...........they have plate size blooms and need no care. The only drawback is that they only open for one day.........but what a show.

Wave Petunias. Full sun, water, and let them go! They spread everywhere, bloom profusely, and last all summer. Come in all colors and sizes.
