yes, it most certaintly is a security risk. it is true that they say it to their "crew" like you mentioned Batman does this. of course thats ok because they know who each other really is. however, when he's in the middle of fighting the joker and yells, "Dick watch out!!!" it poses a few questions. the joker should recognize this. same thing when batgirl says "what are we gonna do bruce?" but of course it is up to the writer to determine what the characters hear and don't hear.

if you are interested in stories about secret identities and their importance then i will reccomend these two titles:

the first identity crisis. it started in dc comics in 2004 and is available in a full hard cover edition. it is about how heroes individually regard their identities and the lenghts they will go to in order to preotect them. here's a link for more info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Identity_Crisis_%28comics%29#Collection_and_related_stories

even more so i reccomend marvel comics' CIVIL WAR. it is a series of seven issues. only the first three have come out so far but you should be able to get them still , even if it is reprints. its about heroes and their place in our world. should they be allowed to run free and do things their own way, or should they be trained and employed like cops? a law is passed which supports the latter, and the heroes must reveal their identites. as i'm sure you know spiderman has revealed his. this law separates the marvel heroes and the war has begun. i strongly, strongly reccomend this. here's a link for more info http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civil_War_%28comics%29

Well if i told you then it would be secret right?
Just kidding, a secret identity is that of which a person keeps secret from everyone except themselves.

In addition, a secret identity is like an alter ego, but without the phsycosymantics of happening to commit to a head shrink.

Also in the case of the justice league they date each other a lot and things get shared. Clark Kent new about Batman before he knew of Bruce Wayne, and Bruce Wayne like to keep his enemies close and those that he calls friends even closer. Should any of them turn on him or betray him. also many of the DC universe heroes grew up with each other. forr instance wally West was once called Kid Flash until the death of his uncle Barry.

Many fo the big shots new Wally both as the kid and as the super speedster. The same thing with Donna Troy, Richard Grason, Arsenal or is he the new Green Arrow? and a whole lot more.

So although the people may say, " Look up in the sky!" etc, etc, the ones that are close to them knew who it is.

Besides i don't think that it would be as exciting as saying the adventures of million dollar playboy Bruce Wayne and is entourage Dick Grason, somehow that just doesn't sound right.

Think about your own life. You probably have secrets that you don't want the world at large to know, even though there are specific people who know the secrets. Secret identities can be like that. Robin knows Batman is Bruce Wayne and sometimes calls him Bruce even when he's in the Bat suit, but Bruce Wayne's secret identity is still a secret to the rest of the world.

Say that I am Spider-Man, and I do not want anyone to know that I am Peter Parker. Well, I would be Peter at work and at school and around the people that I love, but I would be Spider-Man when I need to save someone. Does that make sense? I hope it does. Think of it this way, when you are in your costume you can be someone else, when you are you, then you have to act like you, but in the costume you do not have to be you.
