Substitute the second equation into the first:

2(y+1) + 3y = 17
5y + 2 = 17
5y = 15

y = 3
x = 4

I think it's y=3 and x=4.

1. Plug in (y+1) for x so you have all the same variable when you distribute: 2(y+1)+3y=17
2. Distribute (multiply both y and 1 by 2): 2y+2+3y=17
3. Add like terms (2y+3y)to simplify: 5y+2=17
4. Minus 2 from 17 to get the y alone: 5y=15
5. Divide 5y by 5 to get y all alone without any coefficients (numbers to the left of it), but you have to divide 15 by 5 as well so the equation will be balanced (what you do to one side you have to do to the other): y=3
6. Plug 3 in for y in the original equation: 2x+3(3)=17
7. Multiply 3 by 3: 2x+9=17.
8. Subtract 9 from 17 to get x alone: 2x=8
9. Divide 2x by 2 to get x all alone, and divide 8 by 2 to balance the equation: x=4

And you're done!

x=4 and y=3

Multiply second equation by 2, and it becomes:
2x=2y+2
Subtract the second equation from the first:
(2x=-3y+17) - (2x=2y+2) and you get
0=-5y+15
Changing sides, you get
5y=15, so y=3.
Plug this value for y in any of the original equations and you get
x=3+1, so x=4.

2x + 3y = 17 x=y+1

2(y+1) + 3y = 17

2y + 2 + 3y = 17

5y + 2 = 17

5y = 15

y = 3

your question: 2x+3y=17 the answer for x: x=y+1
so it becomes:
2(y+1)+3y=17
2y + 2 + 3y = 17
5y + 2 = 17
5y = 17 - 2
5y = 15
y = 3

So then what is x?
2x+3y=17 y = 3
2x +3*3=17
2x + 9 = 17
2x = 17-9
2x = 8
x= 4

2x + 3y = 17 (eq.1)
x - y = 1 (eq.2) multiply eq.2 by 2

.....2x - 2y =2 now, eq.1 - eq.2

u will get 5y = 15
y = 3

fill in y for any of the two equations.....

x - 3 = 1
x = 4

therefore, the answer is x = 4 and y = 3

2x+3y=17 x=y+1

2(y+1)+3y=17

2y+2+3y=17

5y+2=17

5y=15

y=3

2(x=y+1) + 3y = 17
2+3=5
17-5 =12
12=XxY
x = 4 (1 greater than y)
y= 3
(well, that's how i got it hehe)
