I bought a Nintendo DS and the game Nintendogs and there is this thing called Bark Mode and says something about a wireless adapter. Do I need to buy one in stores or is there one built into the system???

No adapter is needed, it's built in.
You just select bark mode and it automatically finds people within range.
Then you can play with friends: multiplayer.

There is one built in, as the other two people said. It's included in the DS itself. I sometimes chat with my roommate on Pictochat and the wireless adapter works fine, and I didn't buy anything additional.
