cause some idiots make it illegal in the 1920s. Make it legal and tax it like they do alcohol and tobacco. No more problems with big crime gangs. Have farms where it can be grown legally, and lots of people would buy it.

because of the way it alters the mental state.at one time opium was legal but there got to be so many addicts the families step in and put an end to it. also ask most users of hard drugs how they started and you will find out they started smoking. drunks for the most part fall down and pass out. druggies commit crimes.

Because the government cannot control its growth. They want to make money too. Tobacco is legal, but if you grow your own and don't pay taxes on it, you can get in trouble.

Oh.. I thought you knew that.. It is NOT legalized because it gives the Police, judges, etc a chance to SCREW the people out of money as they have been doing.. If there was no law against it, they would not bes able to get money out of people...

It's destructive to society, and I don't remember it being legal, but it was probably like other drugs and they didn't know of its harmful effects then. (Yes, I know, it's completely harmless we can argue that point forever so lets not delve into it here)
