The reason Theodore Cleaver was nicknamed "Beaver" was that his brother, Wally, when he was little, could not pronounce "Theodore."

When Wally was a lad he could not pronounce Theodore it came out sounding like beaver so the name stuck.

June & Ward really hated him and wanted Lumpy to be their son. They figured that with a name like Beaver, someone (Eddie Haskel) would kill him & they could have the son they really wanted., Lumpy
