be proud of who you are, and don't let society tell you to not be. If they take you the wrong way, piss on em...the relationship wasn't meant to be :-)

The same way the nazis are proud of their heritage and everything they did and stood for.
If you feel that they are not racist, then why are you afraid of embracing the confederate heritage?
I have no problem with any of this, however, most of the time these group are saying 'in your face'. So, does being proud of your confederate heritage mean that? What is it that you are saying?

There are many aspects to Southern culture that are not connected with slavery, Jim Crow laws, etc. You can choose to emphasize those aspects of your heritage.

Know that displaying the Confederate flag Will cause many/most people to INFER that you are a racist. So be prepared to answer those folks in a polite manner, and explain to them precisely which aspects of your Southern heritage that you're proud of.

My own heritage is one that causes many people to have a kneejerk-type reaction, as well. And I'm really tired of all of the stupid and downright false assumptions that are made around my own ancestry. I could get angry. But I've had a fair amount of success with just calmly answering people's questions and logically refuting their assertions. I'm always careful to say something like, "I can understand why you believe this, because of [blah blah blah]." This way, they don't feel as if I'm insulting their intelligence when I refute, one by one, each of their long-held and cherished beliefs. I am sure that you could find a similar way to handle those who feel that all White Southerners are a bunch of racist "crackers."

Why don't you get rid of that rebel flag in the back of your pickup?
And continue to be the Southern gentleman that I'm sure you are.
