It makes it massively worse. It takes a huge amount of power to run an air conditioner - turn it off in your car and see how much faster/more economically it runs.

Air conditioners draw more power than do most other household appliances. Most homes in the U.S. get their electrical power from a coal plant, and coal power plants do increase production durring the hottest months of the year. This is most likely due to higher energy demand caused by air conditioning.

It draws more energy, which is largely created through the burning of fossil fuels. It also is used to cool an enclosed environment. So, sum total, it probably advances global warming more.
If it were drawing energy from an alternative fuel source like solar power, it would probably be nuetral or a slight cooling effect. I don't know about if it were used to cool a large environment using fossil fuels. If it were using solar power to cool a large area there would be a slight reduction in localized warming, I don't think it would have a significant effect though.
