The question a couple down made me think about this. I believe it is racist against whites that we should continually be battered for what other white people did years ago. Judging us just because our skin is also white is really not much different than discriminating against blacks, or other minorities, because of their features/skin color. I get so tired of people playing the race card when it is uncalled for. What do you all think? It disgusts me that even in college classes I have had teachers talk about racism in class and almost like try to make the white people feel bad as if it were something "we" did that we should be ashamed of. Our skin is also white, yes, but we are not them (the racists years ago). THAT is discrimination to act as though we are.

As a white person you recieve much of the benifits of institutional racism that has been in existance for a long time. It's called white privilage. You are not required to feel bad for who you are. It is important though to understand who you are and how that affects the world around you. It's more about taking responsibility rather than feeling guilty. Racism still exists and the only reason that you can feel that it doesn't is because you and I benifit from white privilage. And we are responsible for that.

But now see right there humans keep on throwing racism around. Each race does this and really its just human nature now you may be tired of blacks talking about whites but through the ages early black ansestors had to protect themselves mainly from the racism of whites and from protection turned into hatred as the whites treated the blacks. Only some were able to move on but through the racist killing its hard for some blacks to move on. Some of their relatives could have been murdered be the KKK or whatever. And so they hold a groud on one race even not keeping in mind that not all of one race is bad. You must take to consideration that blacks do not act like this for no reason and that everyone has an opinion wheter you like it or not.

Your absolutely right. I personally am black, white, and spanish, and I have a upper hand because I don't have any bias towards any race so I have a clearer vision.
White people shouldn't be battered for what their ancestors did, but what the problem is, is that alot of white people are still to this day racist (think of down south people who still wave around confederate flags).
I think every single race is racist, believe it or not, they are just not aware that they are. White people are racist, obviously, but so are Black people, spanish, everybody is racist. The most racist people are the ones who think that every body is racist towards them. So when you hear, lets say a spanish person saying that white people are so racist, that comment in itself is racist, so they might need to recheck their thinking.

First of all, get over the idea of "reverse discrimination" discrimination IS what it is, and it happens to a lot of people in a lot of situations. color, body type, sexual orientation, religion, poitical stance, gender etc. It is understandable that you, a non-hating type do not want to bear the burden of what our forefathers did to african slaves and then african americans citizens. What is improtant for you now is to find ways to become involved in ending the racism that IS left to deal with. Institutionalized racism is still an issue that needs attention from the population at large. I hear you, and I agree that many african americans need to stop blaming white people for their problems. but in order for all that to be put behind us, we need to agressively deal with issues of the poor, and racism in public schools and the workplace. Please be a part of the changes that we need in todays world and through that you might not feel so personally attacked when these issues arise.

Ancestoral guilt is an invention of activists and intellectuals to justify such things as affirmative action. Its a fabrication. In school, you have a choice either to sit through your professor's tirade (remember, he's got an intellectual stake and probably a textbook in the concept) or challenge him/her (doubtful you'll win since his/her is most likely closed minded on the subject).

i agree. read Dust Tracks On a Road by Zora Neale Hurston. she was black and lived in the racist times but has a very forward thinking philosophy with a cute little anecdote about it. i found it expressed what i felt as a white woman just as much as it expressed her opinion.

I go with the "South Park" philosophy on discrimination.
Discriminate against all ... lighten up-breath ... we're all stupid in some ways.
