what is the differences between helping an addict and enabling one?

You cant help an addict...they have to get help on their own, you can encourage and support but YOU have no control.
You can enable them by NOT setting boundaries in the relationship.

Enabling is giving them money, making excuses for their behavior, tolerating anything that you suffer for but they benefit from.
