I was 37, because I had a great-aunt who had lost both her breasts to cancer, and my mother had, had a questionable mammogram (but all was fine when they rechecked 6 mos later)...

I had my next one at 40 (the "usual" age), they saw a spot, did another 6 months later on just one breast, all was fine, so I had another 6 mos later at 41 on both breasts, and will continue to have them yearly unless they see something they want to recheck before a year is up....

Not painful...not horrible...no big deal...at least for me...I've got average size breasts that are a bit saggy from having been very heavy and losing a lot of weight years ago...I think the more dense the breast tissue, the more discomfort if I'm not mistaken...

I haven't had one yet, but I might soon. My mom is now a breast cancer survivor and she's being testing to see if she carries the breast cancer "gene." If she does, I'm going to talk to my gynecologist, but I have a feeling she might have me do a mammogram now (I'm 30) to get a baseline.

The usual age is around 40. Part of the reason for this is that the breast tissue in younger women is more dense and the results are that much harder to read. If you are concerned, talk to your doctor.

i am 16. i have never had one but i am very scared i may have breast cancer. 4 females in my family have had breast cancer. and my uncle and nan have each had throat cancer.

i found a lump in each breast (one appeared months after the first) but i read that it could be "buds" for when my breasts grow.. but this was about 3 years ago.. and yeh.. im still very flat chested.

i dont want to tell my mum or any family im scared because i dont want them to worry. i would rather go by myself then worry any friends as well. i say to myself i will go.. but i never have the courage.. isn't it embarassing having someone checking your boobs??

sorry i will put this up as a question..
