If it was pierced with a ring then it doesn't unscrew. The ball needs to be 'popped out'. But be warned, it's a b***h to get back in if you change your mind. Bars are easier in the long run, but make sure you screw the ball on really tight. It might be a good idea to get a few spares too.

You need to hold one piece of the ring and pop out the ball. if you are putting in a bar then its piss easy to replace, but if you want another ring, I would suggest going back to where you got it done. Any genuine tattoo/piercing shop will do this for you, although they may only put in a sterile bar from their shop. If you wanna put another ring in by your self, good luck. You need the patience of a saint and fingers as small as a small persons fingers. LOL

if you hold the bottom ball and turn that top on try it both ways, if this is the 1st time you have tried to take it out it will be stiff so take your time and turn hard but not to hard and it should loosen that way, other wise go back to where you got it done and they will do it for you

If it's a ring not a bar... push or pull the ball out.
They're called snap locks and it will make a snap sound. make sure you don't lose the ball.
