You can find square root for any number by going to

Start-->All Programs-->Accessories-->Calculator

on your computer.

Depending on setting, you may see a standard calculator or an advanced calculator. You can toggle between them by going to View-->Standard/Scientific.

The odd thing is, sqrt is under standard but not scientific verison of the calculator, at least on my Windows.

To get the square root of 849, enter the number first, then hit the "sqrt" button, located as the second button in the last column of the buttons.

This is what the calculator gives: 29.137604568666930826191504708478

There must be something else on your mind, definitely not the square route of 849, but perhaps the square rout of 8 and 4 and 9.
Sr of 8 is 2 Sr2, of 4 its 2, and of 9 its 3. I still think you have a puzzle in your question. I am not going to give you the square rout of 849 because your question cannot be that simple.

29.

No, that's not it. 29*29 = 841. But if the square root of 849 were 29, then both 29 and 849/29 would be the square root of 849. One's too low, the other's too high. So try averaging them:

(29 + 849/29)/2 = 29.13793103...

This isn't it, either. Its square is 849.0190249... But one can pull the same trick again:

(29.13793103... + 849/29.13793103... ) /2 = 29.13760457...

Now if I cheat and put 849 in a calculator and squareroot it, I get 29.13760456... . So in just two sets of button tappings on a four-function calculator, we get the answer good to 7 decimal places!

Sometimes you have to use makeshift methods like this one, and in this case, it turned out quite well.

Why are you asking this? It is hardly a random question that was bugging you as you walked home. If it is homework then there are FAR better and quicker ways of finding the answer.
The answer is use a calculator/computer to do the hard work.
On the off chance that you are not interested in the result but actually want to know how to find the result then there is a simple(ish) technique called the Newton-Raphson Method that will give you the answer to this plus loads of other similar questions. To save time I googled it for you and found a good description here:

If you are interested in such questions, why do you not buy your self a pocket calculator? They only cost about $5 or £2 and they are always correct. You can also use them to do other things, such as count your money when you become rich.
