Depends.
I know that in my state people less that 17 years old need a permit to work some jobs.
If you are 18 year old or older you don't need a state permit to work in any state.
However:
In some states you must be a union member to work some jobs.
In most (if not all) states you must pass certain exams to work some jobs.

If you are a US citizen then you can work in any state in the US. Work permits are for minors wanting to work. You do need a SS#(not just any-ones number, but one assigned to you) and sometimes ID(like a drivers license).

The problem is your focusing on the things in life that don't really matter. When I was a kid I had hopes and dreams. We all did. But over time, the daily grind gets in the way and you miss the things that really matter, even though they are right in front of you, staring you in the face. I think the next time you should ask yourself "Am I on the right track here?". I don't mean to be rude but people like you I really pity. So maybe you could use the few brain cells you have and take advantage of the knowledge I have given you now. Good luck.

No. US Citizens may work anywhere within the US, Puerto Rico, and Guam.
You must be able to prove that you are a citizen and have the appropriate paperwork described in the IRS-I9 form
Either (1) column a document or (2) column b documents.
