Use a tanning lotion with an SPF of 20 or more and build up your tolerance to the sun. Also, wear a hat when you're at the beach because your face is much more susceptible to the sun when you're near the water and your hair is likely to get scorched, too.

Hi, I have been using a product called Before Sunscreen from a company called Arbonne. I was out playing golf yesterday for two and half hours and got brown, but no sunburn at all. It is the best stuff I have come across. You can find it at www.wonderful.myarbonne.com and find it on the online catalog.
