It is hust there the third pharyngeal arch fromeach side came and fused. no function except to show pride by keeping it up!

But seriously, the chin is a side effect of the rapid reduction of the anterior dentition in the human lineage. If you look at our nearest ape relatives (gorillas and chimpanzees), there is no prominent chin. However, looking at fossil hominids, beginning with australopithecines and continuing through modern humans, you will see a gradual reduction of incisors and canines, resulting in a bony prominence of jawbone that is now our chin.

the chin is just the structure of your jaw bone. some people have small, almost non-existant chins. there names are usually billy bob and cleatus.
